Awakening Woman
for Puku

She watches the ocean burning in the somnolent sunset
Her ancient eyes quietly beholding
The fiery wings of the horizon.
She smiles at this beauty
That is her oldest friend
And yet
Always her ever-new one,
Wondering with what magic
Such renewal of reverence occurs
Knowing even deeper that no words
Can ever comprehend
This key to eternity.
The waves purr, confiding in her
She listens intently:
‘Change is coming’ they swirl
‘The time has come to honour you,
Oh, Great Mother.’
She closes her eyes
And nods a gentle assent
As the waves begin to chant
Worshipful, watery mantras.
She rises to her feet
Nestling her toes in the deliciously warm sand
And imagines roots, strong, sylvan sinews, growing from them
Plunging deep into the boiling land
Alighting toward the golden molten core
Toward Her heart, beating each year
With the pulse of seasons, the songs of harvests
And there
She connects.
She remains as thus
Bridling her being
To the throbs of the Centre
As her spine stretches out ever so slightly
Aligning itself in perfect symmetry.
Her roots begin to suckle
And her body begins to be filled with harmony
Uniting her most disparate worries
Her most dissonant desires
In an axis of illuminated intention
Soaking her with numinous strength.
She opens her aqueous eyes and stares aloft
Tracing trails of starry crumbs
Reading the poetry in their flickering light
As the mild wind billows through her hair
Tickling her ears with breathy kisses.
She stands
Heaven and Earth wedding in her heart
And she giggles faintly
As her spirit tingles
With the sighs of inner-alchemy achieved
Awakening the sleeping nectar
Waiting in the essence.
She closes her eyes
As the last fire flowers
Lick the sky before retreating
Into the dim dusk.
She feels for the waves
Pets them motherly with her silent hopes;
Feels them
Coming and going,
The blood of the Earth,
The mysterious magnetism of water
Oh, promulgating the law of attraction,
Oh, the charter of love and freedom.
She feels the auburn sea of her own blood flowing
Her own breath in and out
Just like the susurrus waves
In a dance of elated animation.
Her body begins to melt
Inside becomes out,
Embracing the emptiness
Hidden within its every pore
Finding presence in space
Peace in timelessness
Where bellows the thirsts
Of angels.
She breathes in the final flicker
Of the solar hymn
Exhales moonlight,
Wraps her arms around the Earth
As a tear joyously cascades from her eye
Down to the infinite grains of sand
Holding out their pearly hands outstretched
In welcoming celebration.
She sighs a sigh of utmost serenity
Pours out all of her mind’s mumbles
Into the airy hands around her
Falling back into the hammock of her heart
Strung between Venus and Mars;
‘Yes’ she thinks with a honeyed smile whirling on her lips
‘It’s time I changed things…’
